The 30th anniversary of Archeon The people of Archeon In front of you is the jubilee book ‘XXX - The people of Archeon’, which is a celebratory edition for the 30th anniversary of the Archeon museumpark. Experimental archaeology is at basis of the Dutch prehistory. In Archeon, you can experience what this time period was like. The idyllic location of the Mesolithic Age is the starting point of an immense journey through time. It is the year 8800 BC. Via the Neolithic - and the Bronze Age we end up in the Iron Age. You are then in the year 12 BC and you have bridged thousands of years. Archeon has more than forty houses, huts, farms and workshops from different time periods. All buildings are handcrafted reconstructions based on scientific research. Even the reeds from the ditches of the surrounding residential area have been used - as roofing material for the Mesolithic huts. The construction of Archeon, which took place thirty years ago, required the skills of talented, curious, persevering, and collaborating people. And we still continuously utilize those human qualities in order to keep renewing our museum park. It is our belief that it is the people that bring the history to life for you. They do this by doing every day activities in their field. Household goods are repaired, and food is cooked; the merchandise is displayed, and specialist handiwork is performed. But look ... it goes even further! When you meet these people, you can feel their enthusiasm in every fibre of your body. Their passion, their knowledge, and their skills, it is like a soothing flow of passion. Sparks fly, it ignites you. It tickles all your senses. Some of that alluring fire is contained in this book.
